Brad Pitt was just honored with the Maltin Modern Master Award during the 35th Santa Barbara International Film Festival. On Jan. 22, 2020, director David Fincher presented the award to Pitt. Pitt has worked with Fincher in the films “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, “Se7en”, and “Fight Club.” Immediately after, renowned film critic and film historian, Leonard Maltin interviewed Pitt in front of a 2000+ sold-out crowd. The interview encapsulated Pitt’s career including working with notable directors, Tony Scott, the Coen Bros., Tarantino, and Fincher. Pitt is a favorite to win this year’s Oscar for the Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”
The Modern Master Award is the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s highest honor. The award was established in 1995 and renamed in 2015 the Maltin Modern Master Award in honor of Leonard Maltin. The award acknowledges a person who has enriched the culture through accomplishments in the motion picture industry. Previous recipients include Glenn Close, Denzel Washington, Michael Keaton, Bruce Dern, Ben Affleck, Christopher Plummer, Christopher Nolan, James Cameron, Clint Eastwood, Cate Blanchett, Will Smith, George Clooney and Peter Jackson.
